Vowing to play 'like a criminal,” Cedar Rapids police officer Sarah Lacina, 32, of Marion, survived Wednesday night's first round of 'Survivor: Game Changers,” filmed in Fiji's Mamanuca Islands.
The two-hour Season 34 premiere marked the 500th episode of the popular CBS test of stamina and strategy. Like all 20 competitors vying for the million-dollar prize, Lacina has played the game before. She finished 11th and was a jury member in Season 28 in 2014. Lacina is part of the Nuku Tribe, which won both opening Immunity challenges and didn't have to vote anyone off the island. In her bio at www.cbs.com she said she's changing her strategy for this go-round. Here's an interview where she discusses her approach.
Q: How have you changed since the last time you played?
A: I'm more cutthroat now. I'm not out there to make friends, and I'm willing to go against my word.
Q: What skills do you bring to 'Survivor” that will make you a useful member of the group, and what skills have you been learning since you last played?
A: I'm a hard worker. I have a great social game. I can fish and hunt. I'm not lazy or stupid. I'm athletic.
Q: What are you most proud of from the last time?
A: I feel like I had so much game left. I'm not really proud of the way I played. I chose my word and loyalty over $1 million. I would not make that mistake again.
Q: What, if anything do you most regret?
A: I regret sticking to my morals and values. It's 'Survivor” - you have to play the game!
Q: How will you play differently this time?
A: I will do whatever it takes to win. The only purpose for me going back out there is to win a million dollars. I don't care about making friends or what anyone thinks of me. They'll get over it.
The season continues at 7 p.m. March 15 on CBS-TV.
